On September 26th, the 2019 GUBA Awards USA, the world-renowned organization dedicated to African advancement across the African Diaspora, made its official U.S. debut to celebrate Ghanaian innovation and empower the global African Community.
Special guests, heads of state and dignitaries from around the globe gathered together to celebrate the accomplishments of the evening’s distinguished honorees and nominees. Dentaa Amoateng MBE, CEO and Founder of the GUBA Enterprise in her speech mentioned “it is with great pride and a humbling sense of honour to witness the gradual rise of a determined and dynamic new Africa” in light of the Ghanaian president, His Excellency, Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana’s initiative, the Year of the Return.
Awards were presented to distinguished Ghanaian individuals and organizations for their achievements in multiple categories, including:
Right to Dream USA for Charity of the Year
54 Kingdoms for Creative Influencer
Kwame Akoto-Bamfo for Influential Artist of the Year
Dr. Ave Kludze for Innovation in Science & Technology
Ghana Physicians & Surgeons Foundation for Ghanaian Association of the Year
Black Star Awards were given to accomplished honorees celebrating their accomplishments, including:
Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei – Exceptional Contribution to Medicine Award
Dr. Thomas Mensah – GUBA Technological Achievement Award
Patrick Gyimah Awuah Jr. – Exemplary Achievement in Education Award
Nancy Abu-Bonsrah – Young Woman in Medicine Award
Simon Fuller – Public Service Award
Nicholas Jason Osei Buamah – Young and Talented Award
Rosa Whitaker – Excellence in African Socio-Economic Advancement Award
Rachel Naa-Du Laryea – Student Excellence Award
Daphne Mashile-Nkosi – Industrious African Woman Award
Richelieu Dennis – Editorial Excellence Award
Mary Spio – African Innovator of the Year Award
Guests enjoyed live traditional Ghanaian music performances from South African Gospel singer Ntokozo Mbambo, Ghanaian musician, Samini, saxophonist Mizter Okyere and DJ Akuaa throughout the evening.
While receiving a citation for his efforts in diaspora mobilization, His Excellency, Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana reiterated that in light of declaring 2019 the Year of Return, his government would continue to ensure African Americans understood they have a home in Ghana.
