GUBA 2018 Music Excellence Award winner – Stormzy, performed at a secret London gig on the River Thames ahead of his Glastonbury headline set next month.
A countdown and fireworks kicked off his set – the first ever 5G-powered gig – on Wednesday night before he performed tracks from his 2017 debut album Gang Signs & Prayer, and his new single Vossi Bop, against the backdrop of Tower Bridge.
Speaking to the crowd he told his “epic energy crew, to please wherever you are jump up and down, dance, enjoy yourselves.
Stormzy, who became the first artist to be live-streamed over 5G on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, described the gig as “sick,” and said he is “honoured to be part of history.”
The set came weeks before the artist, real name Michael Owuo Jr., is set to become the first grime artist ever to headline Glastonbury Festival, where he will take to the iconic Pyramid Stage on the Friday night.
He confirmed his appearance as headliner at Glastonbury 2019 to his fans on Twitter earlier today. He later added: “Giving God all the glory.”
Other acts headlining include The Killers and The Cure.
