Precious crown jewels inherited by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was stolen on Thursday from the lobby of a hotel in Oslo, Norway. The Asantehene and his entourage have been staying at the hotel as they attended the Norwegian-African Business Summit.
It is reported that the suitcase containing the precious jewels was snatched from the lobby of the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel. The jewels amassed over generations and considered to be priceless are used by the King when he performs ceremonial duties.
The Norwegian media who have been following the case confirmed that the police were treating the incident with the seriousness it deserves. The leader of the Norwegian-African Business Association Eivind Fjeldstad stated that, ‘as hosts of His Majesty, we are terribly sorry about this.’
Marius Erlandsen the investigating leader on the case reported; ‘We sent a patrol to the hotel after a report that a delegation from Ghana had been robbed.’ Erlandsen also confirmed that the police have ‘good’ surveillance pictures and are in the process of identifying the suspects in the footage.
