Ghana UK Based Achievement Awards’ (GUBA) patron, actor Hugh Quarshie, has been nominated for a BAFTA Award along with his Holby City team. The Ghanaian-born actor is no stranger to the BAFTA’s, where back in 2008, Holby City won the award for Best Continuing Drama Award and during which Hugh dedicated the award to the birth of a child of one of his cast members, this honor was made possible after beating off the likes of The Bill and Eastenders. Four years later, they are back to reclaim the title which they originally owned. Hugh has been an actor onHolbyCitysince 2001, where he portrays the role of Dr Ric Griffin without fault.

Hugh’s professional career stems back in 1968 but he is more famously known for his role in Star Wars (1999) where he played Captain Panaka and now later, his role in Holby City. As well as the screen, Hugh is also a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has appeared in various stage productions and has worked with the likes of Dame Judy Dench, Craig Charles and Naomie Harris.

Earlier this year, Hugh proudly accepted the position as a patron for GUBA, where it let it be know that he was very impressed with the efficiency of GUBA, ‘others can learn from you (GUBA), thank you so much for honoring me with this invitation’, he expressed. GUBA Founder & CEO Dentaa added, ‘we are thrilled to have Hugh as our new patron… The awards is essentially about honoring people and highlighting their contribution to both British and African communities’. GUBA is now in its 3rd year and after the reception of 2011’s ceremony, November 2012’s preparations are already underway. This year’s awards will attribute those who dedicate themselves to Media, Charity Work and many other areas, if you know anyone who you would like to nominate, please go to www.gubaawards.co.uk and nominate.
